Welcome to Ms. Ford’s Kindergarten Class
This August your child will complete one of the most important milestones in his/her life-the first day of school! I understand that you and your child may have met this day with excitement or apprehension (or a little of both) and I hope that this letter will help you to know what to expect in kindergarten this year and answer any questions you may have.
Kindergarten is a time of new beginnings, of making friends, and of learning lots of new things each and every day. Our days will be filled with many wonderful experiences and opportunities for learning and growing.
I would like to take this time to tell you a little about myself. This is my twenty-fifth year of teaching with Denver Public Schools, and my 13th year teaching Kindergarten and being at Bromwell. I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in Elementary/Early Childhood Education in 1986. I received my master’s degree from the University of Phoenix in Administration Supervision in 1999. I was also honored to be awarded the Distinguished Teacher of the Year award in 2009.

What will we be learning in Kindergarten?
WOW, we will be learning all about letters and sounds and doing many writing activities. The children are always proud of the stories and books they create and are anxious to share their new skills. Families can help at home by reading to and with their child daily, and encouraging them to write and draw. We will also be learning all about numbers, building on important math concepts including sorting, counting, graphing, classifying, patterns, time and money, measurement, and addition and subtraction.
At back to school night we will be giving you information regarding our daily schedule, reading and math instructional programs, homework and kindergarten goals and expectations.
